Vasishtha Gufa, One hour drive from Rishikesh up river is situated Vasishtha Gufa, where famous saint vasishtha meditaed on the banks of the Ganges. The cave is very peaceful and is a perfect place for meditation. Vashistha cave is cave (Guha) of great sage Vashistha. Vashistha was one of the Saptarishis (Seven Great Sages) in ancient India. Vashistha was manas putra of Brahma & Lord Guru of Lord Ram. This cave is located 25 kms far from Rishikesh & it is Believed That Rishi Vashistha meditated here. This cave is most beautiful place of meditation.
Sage Vashistha had possession of the divine cow Nandini. Nandini was daughter of Kamdhenu. Nandini has power to instantly produce food for lots of people. Arundhuti was wife of sage Vashistha. Mitra Varuna & Urvasi was parents of Vashistha. Vashistha was one of the authors of ancient Indian scripture Rigveda. Also Vashistha was Guru of Lord Ram.
Vashistha was Guru (Teacher) of Lord Ram & he was Also Rajpurohit (Chief priest) of Ikshwaku family (Surya Vansh).
Legends Say That Vashistha came here at River Ganga for suicide after death of his children. River Ganga refused his suicide. Arundhati (Wife of Vashistha) Decided to stay here Because she liked the atmosphere. Sage Vashistha meditated here. Later it was maintained by small family for many years. During 1930 Purshottamanand Swami came here & maintained this place. Currently Chaitanyanand Swami Ji (disciple of Swami Purshottamanand) is head of the ashram.
